Reggae Film Festival: Rootstime

The UK’s first Reggae Film Festival comes to The Drum

Jah Bull and Baboo are two itinerant Rastafarians selling records from town to town in rural Jamaica. By chance they pick up their favourite radio DJ, Farmer Roots, who is racing to get his sick girlfriend to hospital. The two friends only believe in traditional medicine, and persuade Farmer Roots that his girlfriend should see the renowned herbal doctor, Bongo-Hu. But finding the herbman is more difficult than expected.

Reggae Film Festival: Duke Vin and the Birth of Ska

The UK’s first Reggae Film Festival comes to The Drum

London in the 1950s was a cold place, or so it appeared if you were one of the thousands of newly arrived Jamaican immigrants. Against a backdrop of discrimination and race riots, this documentary charts the contribution and impact of soundmen Duke Vin and Count Suckle, who stowed away on a boat from Kingston bringing music that would change the face of UK culture.
