Five Mystical Songs
Tchaikovsky
Symphony No 4
Strauss
Die Fledermaus Overture
A concert of melodic and lyrical beauty, full of musical fireworks! Vaughan Williams’ glorious setting for baritone soloist, choir and orchestra of the simple words by the 17th-Century metaphysical poet George Herbert is spiritual, moving and triumphant. This is followed by one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous, emotionally urgent and exhilarating symphonies.
Under conductor Russell Keable, the University of Surrey Symphony Orchestra and Choir continue to provide a wide range of repertoire, giving concerts that really explore symphonic structures and sounds.
Tonight’s programme is particularly appropriate for the clear acoustic of St Saviour’s Church.
Tickets: £12; £10 senior citizens, University staff; £7 students, concessions
